Toy Action Figure Review: NECA Gears of War 3 Series 3 7-inch tall COG Soldier Action Figure

Posted on 17:20 by Unknown
First post of the new year and it's not even 1/6 scale ;p
HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!

"I shall remain vigilant and unyielding in my pursuit of the enemies of the Coalition. I will defend and maintain the order of life as it was proclaimed by the Allfathers of the Coalition in the Octus Canon. I will forsake the life I had before so I may perform my duty as long as I am needed. Steadfast. I shall hold my place in the machine and acknowledge my place in the Coalition. I am a Gear. "
— Oath of the Coalition, sworn by all recruits

These were touted as: "The long awaited sequel to the 12+ million selling Gears of War franchise releases and now a brand new line of figures to commemorate the monumental occasion. Sculpted all new from the ground up, these are the most articulated and detailed Gears of War action figures to date. Featuring over 30 points of articulation, character specific weapons, and all new costumes and armors reflective of their in-game look."

NECA Gears of War 3 Series 3 7-inch tall COG Soldier Action Figure came in a clamshell blister pack. I had bought this figure at the same time as the NECA Resident Evil "Operation Raccoon City" Vector 7-inch action figure (see my earlier post HERE). I don't usually buy non-1/6 scale figures but these two caught my attention because of the nice details they came with.

The Gear was an infantry soldier of the Coalition of Ordered Governments. The term comes from the rotating machine which signifies the unity of the COG and the place of the Gear. Gears are highly trained and resilient soldiers, having been in a continuous state of war ever since the Pendulum Wars. [source: gearsofwar.wiki]

As of the Locust War, the Gears are the primary military opposition to the Locust Horde. Gears are organized into squads of four to six soldiers, as opposed to the swarm tactics employed by the Locust. Gears are usually marked by the Crimson Omen emblem.

Gears are equipped with a range of protective armor, most notably the heavy bullet-resistant cuirass and the compatible apparatus-equipped helmet that provides protection from inhaled chemicals, blunt trauma, shrapnel, and low-velocity or poorly aimed bullets. However, the helmets offer no protection from a high-velocity Longshot Sniper Rifle round.

Gears are equipped with standard COG armor and weapons, i.e. Lancer Assault Rifle, Gnasher Shotgun and Snub Pistol. This is standard unless a Gear is a designated marksman, in which case he is equip with the Longshot, and has a specially adapted helmet, or is part of specific unit with different equipment requirements.

After the Sinking of Jacinto, the Stranded Insurgency, and during the Lambent Pandemic, Gear supplies were at an all time low. Most Gears scavenged what armor and weapons they could. With the absence of Mk 2 Lancer Assault Rifle parts, they started using the Pendulum Wars era Lancers again, and also started using more of the Locust originating Hammerburst.

I really liked the whole armor kit and getup. It makes these guys look as tough as nails and all ready for some action! Never got into the video games or storyline but I know a sci-fi futuristic soldier when I see one and these guys look rock solid and eager for some rock-and-roll of the battle kind :)

Even at the height of 7 inches, NECA managed to squeeze in quite a bit of details into this action figure and I just love all the details, from the helmet to the body armor and numerous pouches.

So what if the arms are exposed? It kind of reminds me a little of BANE from Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises". Even the colors and mask bear some resemblance.

This figure would certainly look nice in 1/6 scale if some company can do it

My only beef is the lack of articulation at the arms which doesn't allow the hands to hold the weapon properly. I guess it has more to do with the armor which restricts the arm movement as it does not allow the arms to cross more to the front of the body.

The Mark 1 Lancer Assault Rifle, dubbed the Retro Lancer during the Lambent Pandemic, was the predecessor to the Mk 2 Lancer Assault Rifle. The original Lancer assault rifle was utilized as the standard-issue assault rifle by Coalition of Ordered Governments forces, introduced in the later years of the Pendulum Wars. Known for its reliability, the rifle was an extremely powerful weapon, able to stop a truck, as Baird says, or even bring down a UIR Khimera attack Helicopter, but it had a furious recoil.

The Mark 1 Lancer Assault Rifle, dubbed the Retro Lancer can be stored on the COG soldier's back when not in use.

Preview Foxbox Studio "God Complex: Inari" 1/6 Scale Collectible Figure - It's so Awesome!

Posted on 20:58 by Unknown
What a GREAT piece of news for the year-end and so much to look forward to in 2013!

Backstory from Foxbox Studio site: High strain between the Rulers and the humans can be felt throughout the Earth. However, in the exotic land of Nippon, a different atmosphere took place. Undeterred by the human's highly advanced technology and science in the region, both races live in harmony. The Rulers race in this region are a philanthropic bunch and using their connection to nature, they helped the people of Nippon to get back on their feet after their dark and traumatic past. In many places of the land, the humans built many temples in honor of their deeds, and more than one-third of the temples are dedicated to their favorite Ruler, Inari.

Inari is among the most fortunate of all Rulers. It is believed that many who follow after Inari will also experience great fortune, thus the reason he has many followers. He never let his stature to shadow his purpose and he walks among people as one of them, never to let them turn into zealots. Rumor has it that the Kitsune Rod on his right arm is his tool to annihilate misfortunes.

Inari shares many similar characteristics with one of the Ruler of Hellenic Republic, Hermes. They are not only similar, they know each other quite well. To quote the words of Hermes to Inari: "A guy as lucky as you, I better have you on my side."

This will be Foxbox Studio's THIRD God Complex 12-inch figure to be released, after Hermes and Hades. If you had missed out on the two earlier God Complex 1/6 scale figures, you can view the pictures of the product in hand in my earlier toy blog posts of Hermes HERE and Hades HERE :)

According to wiki, Inari Ōkami is the Japanese kami of fertility, rice, agriculture, foxes, industry and worldly success. Inari is often believed to be a fox and that's the look he has taken in Foxbox Studio's rendition of him. What's more, it looks like Foxbox Studio has even created 1/6 scale foxes to accompany his release :) Fantastic or should we say "That's a foxy idea ;p"

Scroll down to see more preview / prototype pictures of Foxbox Studio "God Complex: Inari" 1/6 Scale Collectible Figure - It's so Awesome (Foxsome)! Be sure to click on the pictures for a bigger and better view :) You can also check out their facebook page HERE

And this is the original concept drawing / illustration by designer Bryan Lie. Isn't it wonderful when 2D renditions become 3D pieces of art? That's what Foxbox Studio has been doing thus far and they are certainly doing a GREAT job at that :) Stay tuned for more news.

Limited pre-order will start at Thailand Toy Expo 2013 Bangkok during the event.
Web-Order will be available early February, more info coming soon.

Incoming: World Box 1/6 scale "Scout GO” from GO BABY series – "Take Happiness Home"

Posted on 17:38 by Unknown
This is the fourth Lakor baby to be released by WorldBox but the first in their new military line called the LAKOR 1/6 scale "Scout GO” from GO BABY series, as in "Let's Go Baby!!" I've already shown preview pictures of their three earlier announced releases starting with Joker Baby HERE, followed by Bat Baby (pictures HERE) and Iron Baby previewed HERE.

Till today, I'm still wondering who the target audience for these figures are because I really don't get it? I collect 1/6 figures and I collect generic toy figures as well (those that I like) which are non-1/6 scale but I just cannot understand the baby angle. I guess they are just not my cup of tea as I find them rather creepy.

SCOUT GO BABY Action Figure Manufactured by World Box is approximately 6" tall (150mm) and Features: 1/6 scale Baby Head, 6-inch Body (150mm), Camouflage clothing (what I see is a fur-lined outfit), Gas mask, SPC Vest, MOLLE Pouch, Dump Pouch, Anti-noise earphone, Rifle sling, AK gun, Gloves, Badge, GPRS, Watch Cap (knit cap also known as Tuque), Chocolate stick x 4 (3 + 1) and Boots (it's listed but I don't see them)...

Camouflage clothing listed by World Box is actually a furry bunny costume which has white paws and belly with a hood that has rabbit ears.

Although this baby (more of a toddler actually) is in 1/6 scale, I doubt the vest and weapon are in true scale because if the vest can fit around the baby's body and he can hold the rifle, that means that they are miniature and smaller than the true 1:6 scale.

I guess keeping the gas mask on would make a great alternate reality "Alice in Wonderland" bunny because without the mask, that's one creepy looking baby ;p Hmmmmm...
