Superman Backstory:
Light years from Earth, the planet Krypton was on the brink of destruction. In a bid to save the life of his infant son, a scientist named Jor-El placed his baby, Kal-El, in a rocket and set it on a course to Earth. The rocket traveled across the universe before crashing in a cornfield in Smallville, Kansas, where it was found by a kindly couple, Jonathan and Martha Kent. The Kents decided to raise the child as their own, giving him Martha's maiden name, Clark.
Enhanced by Earth's yellow sun, Clark's Kryptonian DNA imbued him with powers far beyond those of normal humans. Though he longed to show off his powers, Jonathan and Martha urged Clark to keep them a secret, worried that he would be taken away from them.
Clark had his first taste of helping others after saving the life of his childhood love, Lana Lang, during a tornado. Martha fashioned him a costume made from the blankets that kept him snug and warm on his journey to Earth. The costume honored his alien heritage; the S-like symbol on his chest was the Kryptonian word for hope, as well as the family crest of the House of El. But even with his new costume, Clark operated in secret.
As an adult, Clark settled in the city of Metropolis and adopted the persona of a mild-mannered reporter at the Daily Planet. There he met star reporter Lois Lane, who was enamored with the brawny Superman. For years, his dual identities worked against him, creating a 'love triangle' between Clark, Superman, and Lois.
