Review III: 3A BBICN Exclusive World War Robot WWR 1/6 scale Bot Sniper Punter 12-inch Figure

Posted on 18:43 by Unknown
continued from part 2...

In my first part review of this 3A Punter Bot Sniper figure HERE, I covered the box packaging and a undressed i.e. basic grunt looking figure without the full gear. This was then followed up with a review of Punter wearing the assault and load bearing vests as well as the boonie hat but without the camouflage ghillie suit (pictures HERE). So finally we get to see how threeA (3A) BBICN Exclusive World War Robot (WWR) 1/6 scale Bot Sniper Punter 12-inch Figure really looks like fully suited up.

The 3A Bot Sniper camouflage ghillie suit is not so much worn but more tied together. There are strings located in the reverse side for you to tie the camouflage "netting" to the figure's arms and neck so that the ghillie suit stays in place and does not slip off. Unlike BBI Elite Force 1/6 scale USMC Sniper "Snake" 12-inch figure which came with a full ghillie suit with "strips" which you had to manually tie to complete the look (you can view the pictures HERE), 3A WWR Punter Bot Sniper ghillie suit is less of a suit and more of a "cover" - you just lay it on top of the figure's existing outfit and tie it down in place with strings at strategic locations, two for each arm and one for the neck. Scroll down to see more.

The camouflage ghillie cover is rather effective in breaking up the shape of the figure and if you were to put it among the vegetation, it'll probably stay very well hidden.

From the back, he just looks like a Christmas tree ;p

The front of the figure is not covered because snipers usually lie on their abdomen in a prone position when in their "hide site", a covered and concealed position from which a sniper and his team can conduct surveillance and/or fire at targets. A good hide conceals and camouflages the sniper effectively, provides cover from enemy fire and allows a wide view of the surrounding area.

That is the reason why I didn't want to put on the camouflage ghillie suit first in my reviews as I wanted to show pictures of how Punter looks without the sniper camouflage suit. Once the ghillie goes on, all the nice details will be obscured.

The main purpose of ghillie suits and hide sites is to break up the outline of a person with a rifle. Many snipers use ghillie suits to hide and stay hidden. Ghillie suits vary according to the terrain into which the sniper wishes to blend. For example, in dry, grassy wasteland the sniper will typically wear a ghillie suit covered in dead grass.

Military sniper training aims to teach a high degree of proficiency in camouflage and concealment, stalking, observation and map reading as well as precision marksmanship under various operational conditions. Trainees typically shoot thousands of rounds over a number of weeks, while learning these core skills.

You can see how BIG, Long and HUGE 3A made Punter's sniper rifle to be. All the better to snipe warbots I guess ;p In reality, it would be impossible to lift the rifle, let alone carry it. Plus the size would make it almost impossible to move around stealthily and quietly, something snipers must do so as not to attract attention. Although unrealistic, Punter lives in the imaginary world created by Ashley Wood so everything is exaggerated for effect which is one of the quirky things I like about the universe of World War Robot. So what if it's unreal? It's done for visual effect and immediate impact and that's what you get :)

Here's a view from end of the barrel of the HUGE sniper rifle.

And here are more close-up shots / views of 3A BBICN Exclusive World War Robot WWR 1/6 scale Bot Sniper Punter 12-inch Figure. This is only my second threeA figure after 3A Popbot: 1/6 scale Pathfinder Oya TK Ono 12-inch figure and I'm liking them a lot :) nice additions to the ever growing toy collection.

WWR Bot Sniper Punter: now you see him, now you don't... concealment is the key

And here's a parting shot.

Snipers are trained to squeeze the trigger straight back with the ball of their finger, to avoid jerking the gun sideways. The most accurate position is prone, with a sandbag supporting the stock, and the stock's cheek-piece against the cheek. In the field, a bipod can be used instead. 3A WWR 1/6 scale sniper rifle is big, huge and comes with a bipod which can be extended or retracted depending on the intended usage. 3A BBICN Exclusive World War Robot WWR 1/6 scale Bot Sniper Punter 12-inch Figure Review II

Posted on 16:38 by Unknown
continued from earlier post...

I like military figures. The properly trained and honed military guys always strike me as well-disciplined soldiers transformed into lean mean fighting machines with a heart. A strong military gives the people of the country confidence and acts as a deterrence to opposing / invading forces which in turn helps to ensure a good government. A military that is too strong makes it dangerous as martial law can take over at anytime. A weak military puts the country at risk of invasion and civil unrest / war.

That said, military figures in a future sci-fi world like the colonial marines seen in "Aliens" or "Starship Troopers" as well as soldiers of a post-apocalyptic world intrigues me even more because in these instances, the artist is imagining how the future is seen through the eyes of these soldiers. So the grunts of World War Robot Universe designed by Ashley Wood interests me much because besides humans, they also fight robots or warbots.

This is the 3A World War Robot WWR 1/6 scale Bot Sniper Punter 12-inch figure which was released as a BBICN Retail Exclusive. I've pretty much covered the box packaging and its contents in the earlier post, including detailing the parts and accessories, and what Punter wears under the assault and load bearing vests. This is the second post and part 2 review of threeA's Punter Bot Sniper 1/6 scale figure.

I didn't want to put on the camouflage ghillie suit yet as I wanted to show pictures of how Punter looks without the sniper camouflage suit. Once the ghillie goes on, all the nice details will be obscured.

Snipers typically have highly selective and specialized training and use high-precision rifles and optics, and often have sophisticated communication assets to feed valuable combat information back to their units. Besides their main weapon, snipers usually carry a secondary weapon as well.

3A BBICN Exclusive World War Robot WWR 1/6 scale Bot Sniper Punter 12-inch Figure does not have a secondary weapon. He has his main sniper rifle which is HUGE (see earlier post for pictures) and a sidearm which is a revolver.

Punter wears a load bearing vest over his assault vest which also has a belt with additional pouches attached for carrying everything he needs for his mission. Generally, a sniper's primary function in warfare is to provide detailed reconnaissance from a concealed position or "hide site" and, if necessary, to reduce the enemy's fighting ability by striking at high value targets (especially officers, communication and other personnel) and in the process pinning down and demoralizing the enemy.

That's a whole lot of pouches but no equipment :( There are various pouches of different sizes for his rations, water, radio equipment, ammunition, gear and what have you but all gear and equipment have to be added by yourself since 3A's Bot Sniper comes with empty pouches and not much else in terms of accessories. Nowadays you can get loose 1/6 scale items like cans and bottled water to add to the realism - check out my post HERE of such 1:6 scale beverage ;p ZCWO Mens Hommes Vol.003 (Boxing Legend) set also came with 4 large water bottles and 6 smaller VOLVIC water bottles PLUS 3 cans of beer and 3 cans of soft drinks (designed to look like SPRITE) - see my review and pictures HERE

3A BBICN Exclusive World War Robot WWR 1/6 scale Bot Sniper Punter 12-inch Figure with his boonie hat and without the camouflage ghillie suit looks almost like a cowboy from the wild west, a gunslinger with revolver in hand.

Scroll down to see more pictures of this threeA Punter Bot Sniper figure with his boonie hat, assault and load bearing vests as well as additional pouches carried on the belt worn around his waist

Punter must be thinking "Draw, partner" referring to the whole Western duels / gunfights between cowboys when guns ruled and the law was almost non-existent.

Scroll down to see more close-up shots / pictures and views of this BBICN exclusive figure made in collaboration with 3A and Ashley Wood.

It doesn't matter that this figure does not have a real-like i.e realistic 1/6 scale head sculpt. That's part of the charm of Ashley Wood's creation that is World War Robot or WWR.

It also doesn't matter that the joints are showing because the face has already conveyed to the audience that this is not meant to be ultra-realistic, just something special, a uniquely different figure.

The gun / revolver does not have any moving parts and is just one solid molded piece

The gloved hands are nice and well sculpted

Until next time, hit the road Jack!

Review 1: 3A BBICN Exclusive World War Robot WWR 1/6 scale Punter Bot Sniper 12-inch Figure

Posted on 18:44 by Unknown
The term World War Robot Universe refers to the complete fictional story and world of the World War Robot intellectual property of Ashley Wood and T.P. Louise. WWR format figures are 1/6th scale toys of the various bots and humans of the WWR Universe, while their smaller WWRp counterparts are half that size at 1/12th scale.

The Great War takes place between multiple different factions; the most obvious are the Martians, humans who have left Earth and settled on Mars seeking refuge, and the Terrans those who remain on Earth and seek to subdue the Martians to their fanatic religious ideals with violent means. Both sides utilize warbots in their ongoing conflict.

Grunts are the lowest ranking Terran soldier in the World War Robot Universe. They are described as having very little training for the battlefield and being the "pawns" in the Terran's war. The Grunts are young soldiers who are enlisted as servants for the religious purpose and are given very little investment in training.

Bot Sniper Punter is a Grunt-based character that uses a rather LARGE sniper rifle. His attire includes a boonie hat and camouflage ghillie suit. He snipes warbots!

This 3A World War Robot WWR 1/6 scale Bot Sniper Punter 12-inch figure is released as a BBICN Retail Exclusive. The box over has a rather nice Ashley Wood painting / illustration artwork and the back of the box has the outline silhouette of a Dropcloth warbot as a target for sniping practice.

3A BBICN Exclusive World War Robot WWR 1/6 scale Bot Sniper Punter 12-inch figure lies in the main tray when you remove the cover and underneath the tray is the accessories tray which holds his rather large sniper rifle, camouflage ghillie suit and boonie hat / bush hat.

Another picture / shot of the camouflage ghillie suit and boonie hat / bush hat

And here's the big a$s sniper rifle

If you remove 3A Bot Sniper Punter's load bearing vest and assault vest, Punter is left with a weathered dirty T-shirt with 3A logo and camouflage pants plus boots.

All of 3A's products are heavily weathered / dirtied to give the look of a rather bleak post-apocalyptic world where war reigns and everybody's too busy fighting battles and have no time to clean themselves up, hence the perpetual grunge look

I think the threeA T-shirt was originally white in color but you can't tell now from all the dirt and grime on it ;p

I always like the gloved hands of 3A's human figures :)

Here's a close-up shot / picture of 3A BBICN Exclusive World War Robot WWR 12-inch Punter Bot Sniper's 1/6 scale head sculpt with camouflage paint on his face. All the humans have a cartoonish face which keeps it interesting.

3A Bot Sniper Punter's pants are a little torn and tattered to complete the all-round grunge look of the post-apocalyptic world they live in. Even the boots are heavily worn and weathered

Another view of the 3A BBICN Exclusive World War Robot WWR 12-inch Bot Sniper Punter's 1/6 scale head sculpt with camouflage paint on his face

Here's bot sniper Punter's assault vest with all the various pouches for carrying all that he needs into battle.

3A WWR Bot sniper Punter also has a side-arm (revolver) carried in a drop-down holster

And this is the 1/6 scale load bearing vest that Bot Sniper Punter carries / wears over his assault vest. There are more additional pouches attached to this load bearing vest.

NEXT: More pictures of this BBICN exclusive 1:6 scale 3A Punter Bot Sniper 12-inch figure from the classic World War Robot (WWR) line. Decked out with a guille camouflage suit / netting, this sniper is ready to take out some robots with his huge sniper gun.

What a difference a shemagh makes ;p Very Hot 1/6 scale Mercenary (sand ver) with kufiya added

Posted on 16:50 by Unknown
continued from earlier post...

The keffiyeh / kufiya (Arabic: كوفية‎, kūfiyyah, plural كوفيات, kūfiyyāt), also better known as a ghutrah (غُترَة) or shemagh (شماغ), and also known by some as ḥaṭṭah (حَطّة), mashadah (مَشَدة), or in Persian chafiye (چَفیِه), and in Kurdish cemedanî ( جه مه داني), is a traditional Arab headdress fashioned from a square, usually cotton, scarf. It is typically worn by Arab men, as well as some Kurds.

It is commonly found in arid regions to provide protection from direct sun exposure, as well to protect the mouth and eyes from blown dust and sand. Its distinctive woven check pattern may have originated in an ancient Mesopotamian representation of either fishing nets or ears of grain, but the true origin of the pattern remains unknown. [source: wiki]

For decades, keffiyeh have been issued to British soldiers who now, almost exclusively, refer to them as shemaghs. Their use by some units and formations of the military and police forces of the former British Empire and subsequent Commonwealth dates back to before the Second World War. Since the beginning of the War on Terror (used to specifically refer to the ongoing military campaign led by the US, UK and their allies against organizations and regimes identified by them as terrorist), these keffiyeh / shemagh, usually cotton and in military olive drab or khaki with black stitching, have been adopted by US troops as well, a reversal of previous policy which saw them strictly forbidden during the Gulf War (2 August 1990 – 28 February 1991).

I have already reviewed this Very Hot 1/6 scale Mercenary (sand version) 12-inch action figure in my previous posts HERE and HERE but felt that it lacked something. I decided to make this figure wear a shemagh (which was not included with this set but taken from my stash - pictures of my stash HERE) instead of the helmet and am now quite pleased with the outcome / look :)

Scroll down to see more pictures of this Very Hot 1/6 scale Mercenary (sand version) 12-inch action figure wearing a 1/6 scale shemagh on his head.

I had to google the internet to learn how to tie / wear a shemagh for this 1/6 scale figure and I have to say, I always thought the shemagh was a bit big but discovered that is is just right if one was to follow the instructional pictures and / or video.

I had tried wrapping a 1/6 shemagh when I was kitbashing an SAS action figure from Bravo Two Zero operating during Desert Storm some time back. I never watched the video then but the end result wasn't too bad either. You can check out the pictures HERE as well as pictures of the SAS action man riding the G.I. Joe Fast Attack Cycle from Hasbro HERE

Scroll down to see close-up pictures of Very Hot's 1/6 scale Mercenary (sand version) 12-inch figure wearing the shemagh over his head.
