This is the Part II review of the Hot Toys – MMS189 - The Avengers: 1/6th scale Agent Phil Coulson Limited Edition Collectible Figure based on actor Clark Gregg who plays Agent Phil Coulson in The Avengers movie. In the part 1 toy blog post HERE, I covered the box packaging and contents as well as showing close-up views of Phil without his sunglasses and earpiece / headset. Here he's all decked out and ready to roll!
In the films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Agent Coulson is generally depicted as a supporting character of the protagonists and used to represent S.H.I.E.L.D.'s presence in the plots of the films, to the point that Clark Gregg has described Coulson as "the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent". However, in the "Marvel One-Shots", Coulson is given "a chance to stand in his own spotlight for once", when the character is put in a position where there is an imminent threat and no superheroes around. (source: wiki)
Gregg has stated, "I think of Agent Coulson, after all these years, as a guy with a full life. I think every day he's somewhere doing something for S.H.I.E.L.D., and yet I don't always know what that is... There's always a different twist. In this one he gets to show more of his wisecracking wit, and in this one he's a little bit more of a badass."
Despite Coulson being called "the most recognizable face in the Marvel Comics movie universe", he is depicted as an "everyman" in a universe full of superheroes – "the glue that binds" the characters together. In Thor, Coulson complains that Tony Stark "never tells [him] anything," while in The Avengers, Stark shows his disdain for G-Men - short for Government Man, a slang term for Special agents of the United States Government - (as well as some degree of jealousy of Pepper Potts' very amiable treatment of him) by insisting that Coulson's first name is "Agent" rather than "Phil"
Here's Hot Toys The Avengers Phil Coulson wearing his set of black suit including jacket and pants, long-sleeve shirt, patterned tie, leather-like belt with buckle, pair of black socks and pair of leather-like black shoes.
His 1/6 accessories include sunglasses, earpiece / headset, walkie talkie radio, watch and Glock 19 pistol. All SHIELD agents carry the Glock 19 as their sidearm. There's no holster for the gun though :(
Phil Coulson also has his S.H.I.E.L.D. Level 7 staff pass on him. For a good close-up image, check out my earlier post HERE, including the set of Captain America trading cards which he owns plus the classified S.H.I.E.L.D. Security Level 7 folder
Hot Toys The Avengers 1/6 scale Agent Phil Coulson 12-inch limited edition Collectible Figure also comes with the Destroyer Gun. Coulson uses this gun which harnesses the power of the Destroyer and shoots Loki with it.
The cool thing about this gun is the light-up feature :) it also has a extendable stock / butt (cheek piece) and adjustable scope
