This is my second part review of the recently released Hot Toys Toy Fairs Exclusive "The Dark Knight" 1/6th scale Gary Oldman as Lt. Jim Gordon (S.W.A.T. suit version) Limited Edition 12-inch Collectible Figure which I managed to get from the recently concluded 2012 Singapore Toy Game & Comic Convention (STGCC 2012 from September 1 & 2) and what else can I say? The 1/6th scale head sculpt of Gary Oldman as Lt. Jim Gordon is simply stunning in its resemblance to the actor and looking at the pictures, you really cannot tell whether this is a screen grab / shot from the film or an action figure. I had already covered the box packaging and contents in the previous post. This latest toy blog post is to show off the fully attired and equipped Hot Toys Exclusive S.W.A.T. suit Jim Gordon 12-inch figure with the aforementioned weapons and accessories. So when was Gotham City Police Department (GCPD) Lieutenant James "Jim" Gordon thus attired? Read on to find out...
In the 2008 superhero film "The Dark Knight" directed, produced, and co-written by Christopher Nolan, Gary Oldman stars as James Gordon, a lieutenant in the Gotham City Police Department and one of the city's few honest police officers. He forms a tenuous, unofficial alliance with Bruce Wayne / Batman (Christian Bale) and District Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart).
The story goes like this (Spoilers ahead! Stop reading if you haven't seen the film. If that's the case, why haven't you? It's a GREAT film and I highly recommend it): The Joker tries to assassinate Mayor Garcia during Police Commissioner Loeb's memorial service, but Gotham City Police Department lieutenant James "Jim" Gordon foils the attempt, apparently sacrificing himself in the process. As a result, Bruce plans to reveal his identity, but Harvey Dent instead names himself as Batman to protect the truth.
Dent is taken into protective custody and pursued by the Joker across the city as Batman rushes to his aid. Lt Jim Gordon, who faked his death and is now driving the vehicle as a part of the GCPD S.W.A.T. team that is transporting Dent, helps apprehend the Joker and is promoted to Commissioner.

A SWAT (Special Weapons And Tactics) team is an elite tactical unit in various law enforcement agencies. They are trained to perform high-risk operations that fall outside of the abilities of regular officers. SWAT team members' duties include: performing hostage rescues and counter-terrorism operations; serving high risk arrest and search warrants; subduing barricaded suspects; and engaging heavily-armed criminals.
SWAT teams are often equipped with specialized firearms including submachine guns, assault rifles, breaching shotguns, riot control agents, stun grenades, and sniper rifles. They have specialized equipment including heavy body armor, ballistic shields, entry tools, armored vehicles, advanced night vision optics, and motion detectors for covertly determining the positions of hostages or hostage takers inside enclosed structures.
The first SWAT team was established by inspector Daryl Gates in the Los Angeles Police Department in 1968. Since then, many American and Canadian police departments, especially in major cities and at the federal and state-levels of government, have established their own elite units under various names; these units, regardless of their official name, are referred to collectively as SWAT teams in colloquial usage.
Gates originally named the platoon "Special Weapons Assault Team"; however, this name was not generally favored and was rejected by his manager, deputy police chief Ed Davis, as sounding too much like a military organization. Wanting to keep the acronym "SWAT", Gates changed its expanded form to "special weapons and tactics".
The first significant deployment of LAPD's SWAT unit was on December 9, 1969, in a four-hour confrontation with members of the Black Panthers. The Panthers eventually surrendered, with three Panthers and three officers being injured. By 1974, there was a general acceptance of SWAT as a resource for the city and county of Los Angeles.
S.W.A.T. was made famous when a 1970s American television series about the adventures of the WCPD's Olympic Division Special Weapons And Tactics (S.W.A.T.) team operating in an unidentified California city began airing on television. A big-screen adaption of the series starring Colin Farrell and Samuel L. Jackson was released in 2003. A direct-to-DVD sequel titled S.W.A.T.: Firefight, which has very little connection to either the series or the 2003 film, was released in 2011.

Lt. Jim Gordon wears the gas mask bag strapped to his left thigh. There is no gas mask inside the bag :( It is just padded to give the illusion that it is full. The Motorola radio is stored in the radio pouch secured to the belt on his back.
