Remembering 9/11, 11 years ago - Never Forget

Posted on 20:15 by Unknown
The September 11 attacks (also referred to as September 11, September 11th or 9/11) were a series of four suicide attacks that were committed in the United States on September 11, 2001, coordinated to strike the areas of New York City and Washington, D.C. On that Tuesday morning, 19 terrorists from the Islamist militant group al-Qaeda hijacked four passenger jets. The hijackers intentionally piloted two of those planes, American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175, into the North and South towers of the World Trade Center complex in New York City; both towers collapsed within two hours. The hijackers also intentionally crashed American Airlines Flight 77 into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and intended to pilot the fourth hijacked jet, United Airlines Flight 93, into the United States Capitol Building in Washington, D.C.; however, the plane crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania after its passengers attempted to take control of the jet from the hijackers. Nearly 3,000 people died in the attacks, including the 246 civilians and 19 hijackers aboard the four planes.

When the twin towers were hit, the city's emergency workers reacted immediately and rushed to the towers to try and rescue those trapped inside the buildings. People were rushing out for their safety but these people (mostly FDNY firefighters) were rushing in. Their first priority was saving lives at the cost of their own. Many were in the towers when they collapsed.

A total of 411 emergency workers died as they tried to rescue people and fight fires. The New York City Fire Department (FDNY) lost 340 firefighters, a chaplain and 2 paramedics. The New York City Police Department (NYPD) lost 23 officers. The Port Authority Police Department lost 37 officers. Eight emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and paramedics from private emergency medical services units were killed. [source: wiki]

Let's take a moment to reflect and remember those brave souls who died in the line of duty...

This is a Hot Toys 1:6 scale Modern Firefighter released in 2002. Whether or not it was timed to mean something doesn't really matter. What matters is that an ultra detailed 12-inch Fireman action figure was produced and collectors had a chance to own one of these amazingly crafted miniature firefighter (actually 12 inches isn't that small ;p).

Scroll down to see more pictures and turnaround views of this fine figure by Hot Toys

This Hot Toys 1:6 scale Modern Firefighter 12-inch action figure came with Leather fire helmet with traditional embossed ivy pattern, Air Pak oxygen tank with metal carrying frame and harness, PASS (Personal Assistance Safety System) device and gas mask with regulator, high beam torchlight with shoulder strap, walkie talkie radio with remote coiled lapel microphone, angle torchlight, helmet flashlight and door stopper.

His fire fighting equipment included "Jaws of Life" pneumatic tool with rubber hose, halligan tool and flat head fire axe - all die-cast of course!

Under all that firefighting gear and equipment, he wears face hood, blue vest with suspenders and his firefighting turnout gear with abseiling harness and flame resistant boots

His firefighter's jacket comes with reflective tape, all weathered for good effect. The 1/6 scale head sculpt resembled Tom Cruise. Hot Toys were using this sculpt a lot at that time for their figures.

Check out my earlier post HERE (with even more pictures) on this Hot Toys 1:6 scale Modern Firefighter 12-inch action figure

And here's another post of some 1:6 scale 12-inch Firefighters that I own :)

Plus my post last year on September 11 i.e. 9/11, Ten Years On

Awesome firefighter! I can't for the life of me figure out his turnout gear color... his radio and strap for his lite box appear to be dark black but his turnouts look a bit black with maybe a tint of grey.. maybe you could shed some light on this, thanks!
