1/6 Chris Evans as Steve Rogers in Classic Captain America costume by Captain Action

Posted on 23:07 by Unknown
I wasn't too pleased with the 12-inch figure body I had used earlier for filling up this Captain Action Marvel Comics 1/6 scale Captain America Costume Set by Round 2 Corp - you can see the posts HERE and HERE. So I decided to have another go. I had just posted this updated look Chris Evans as Steve Rogers / Captain America standing together with the 1/6 scale Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark in Asmus Toys "The Avengers" outfit set in my earlier post :)

I had used the regular Hot Toys TrueType 12-inch figure body for the initial fitting but it just doesn't fill up the classic Captain America costume like it should and made Steve Rogers look rather scrawny :( So I decided to switch the body to a more muscular version and used the regular body for Tony Stark instead (see 1/6 scale stark naked Tony pictures HERE). Scroll down to see Steve Rogers new 12-inch muscular body.

There's a whole history of body types I could go into way before Hot Toys TrueType bodies even arrived on the scene. There were quite a number of developments with the basic body shape to muscular body type and then back to regular body type again. It's all to do with using the right type of body to fit the right clothes / attire.

This particular body type is rather old and I think it goes way back to early 2000 (the beginning of the new millennium). I've had this body lying around in my kitbash stash - check out my post HERE titled "1:6 stuff for kitbashing OR just some of my stash" for more :)

These bulky 12-inch figure bodies (built like body builder types) were not good at all for kitting out a military figure because the huge chest impedes movement and the figure could not stretch his hand across his chest when he was fully loaded with all his gear and equipment. It also made him look very top heavy, like a tortoise with its shell and the head and limbs sticking out.

But this same bulky body works fine with this particular Captain Action Marvel Comics 1/6 scale Captain America Costume Set by Round 2 Corp because it fills up the superhero costume nicely and makes the figure look more impressive. If you were to compare this set of pictures with the earlier ones posted HERE, you can clearly see how much difference the body makes

I am definitely happier with how this turned out as compared to the look before this changeover. Now Steve Rogers look like he did come out from the experiment to transform him into a super soldier successfully.

In the 2011 "Captain America: The First Avenger" film by Marvel Studios, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) dons this classic Golden Age Captain America costume when he was asked to promote war bonds after Dr. Abraham Erskine (Stanley Tucci) was killed / assassinated before he could duplicate the formula for more Super Soldiers to form an army.

In the movie, Steve Rogers USO stage shield is in the classic red, white and blue colors inspired by the United Sates of America flag. The shield he carried was the triangular version and not this round disc-shaped shield which he has become synonymous with. You can check out pictures of Captain America's 1/6 scale triangular shield HERE

The mask Cap is holding is the Captain America mask from the Round 2 Corp Captain Action 1/6 scale Captain America costume set. I cut off the portions where the face had been so that it now looks more like a mask Chris Evans as Steve Rogers could put on.

I am quite pleased with this new look especially since I only had to use the particular OLDER muscle body type from my kitbash stash and didn't have to fork out money for a newer 12-inch muscular body.

So there you have it - Chris Evans (head sculpt from Hot Toys) as Steve Rogers in classic Captain America costume (from the new Captain Action line by Round 2 Corp)

Round 2 Corp. Captain Action 1/6 scale Captain America Costume Set for 12" figures Review II

Posted on 06:20 by Unknown
continued from earlier post...

Following my part 1 review of the Captain Action Marvel Comics 1/6 scale Captain America Costume Set by Round 2 Corp. which featured prominently on the triangular shield and the Golden Age era Captain America costume, I decided that Cap has got to have his round shield as well so here it is :)

The Round 2 Corp Captain Action 1/6 scale costume set for Captain America came with a Cloth / fabric Captain America costume with emblem, Captain America mask, Steve Rogers mask, open gloved hands, fist gloved hands, boots, round shield with straps, triangular shield with straps, optional long straps for use with wither shield, newspaper and Hawkeye boots (a bonus item for their build-a-figure concept). I couldn't bear to use the Steve Rogers mask and Captain America mask because they are just too cartoony so I decided to put the Captain America costume on a Hot Toys Regular TrueType body with Hot Toys' 1/6 scale Chris Evans head sculpt that came with the Hot Toys The Avengers: 1/6 Captain America 12-inch Limited Edition Collectible Figure - You can check out the pictures HERE :)

Since signing on to play the role of Marvel Studios Captain America on the big screen, Chris Evans and Steve Rogers / Captain America are now pretty much one and the same person. I don't think you can see him in any other way now, just as you cannot imagine Daniel Craig not being James Bond. Even though Chris Evans has also played the superhero role as Johnny Storm / Human Torch in "Fantastic Four (2005)" and "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007)", it seems like this Captain America role will stick with him for a very long time, what with "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" coming out in 2014.

I liked that Marvel tried to show how unrealistic the comics version of the Captain America costume would look like in real life by having Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) donning the classic Golden Age costume when he was asked to promote war bonds after Dr. Abraham Erskine (Stanley Tucci) was killed / assassinated before he could duplicate the formula for more Super Soldiers to form an army.

That said, it's still nice to see Chris Evans in the classic comic book Captain America costume because that's the Cap I grew up with and remember, before every major character in the Marvel Comics got made into a film. DC has got a lot of catching up to do. The only DC character I am most eager to see on the big screen is Wonder Woman :)

The Captain Action 1/6 scale Captain America Costume Set is actually quite well done and made / stitched and other than the masks, I'm quite pleased with the set. Sure it's not the same standard as Hot Toys version which is the movie version but this Round 2 Captain America costume set only cost peanuts compared to Hot Toys version which cost an arm and a leg. Still, I gotta have both :)

Now all I have to do is figure out a way to get the 1/6 scale Captain Action Captain America mask on the 12-inch Chris Evans (Steve Rogers) figure.

Here's a nice picture of Captain America with his round shield

The look of pure determination on Steve Rogers' (Chris Evans) face - the "never-say-die" look

With the longer straps provided in this Round 2 Corp Captain Action 1/6 scale Captain America costume set, you can make Cap carry the shield on his back as well.

Review Captain Action Marvels Comics 1/6 scale Captain America Costume Set for 12-inch Figure

Posted on 21:20 by Unknown
In the 2011 "Captain America: The First Avenger" film by Marvel Studios, U.S. Senator Brandt has Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) tour the nation in a colorful costume as "Captain America" to promote war bonds, rather than allow scientists to study him and attempt to rediscover the Super Soldier formula that was lost when Dr. Abraham Erskine (Stanley Tucci) was killed / assassinated before he could duplicate the formula for more Super Soldiers.

So after becoming the first Super Soldier in a successful military science experiment, the newly transformed Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) is sadly consigned to playing a costume hero on the vaudeville stage wearing the Captain America USO (United Service Organizations Inc.) hero suit. The Captain America costume is pretty much what Steve Rogers wore in the comics and while it looks good on paper, it doesn't translate very well onto the big screen, which is what the movie producers and directors wanted to show the audience.

This is a review of the Captain Action Marvel Comics 1/6 scale Captain America Costume Set by Round 2 Corp. Captain Action was an action figure created in 1966, equipped with a wardrobe of costumes allowing him to become Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, Captain America, Aquaman, the Phantom, The Lone Ranger (and Tonto), Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers, Sgt. Fury, Steve Canyon, and the Green Hornet. Captain Action was a many-in-one hero, who could adopt the guise of several heroes. After 30 years off the market, Captain Action was revived in 1998, by retro toy company Playing Mantis but ended in 2000. In March 2011, Round 2 Corp. and Captain Action Enterprises announced plans for a redesigned 1/6 scale Captain Action figure and this is one of those costume sets that were released.

The Round 2 Corp Captain Action 1/6 scale costume set for Captain America includes: Cloth / fabric Captain America costume with emblem, Captain America mask, Steve Rogers mask, open gloved hands, fist gloved hands, boots, round shield with straps, triangular shield with straps, optional long straps for use with wither shield, newspaper and Hawkeye boots (a bonus item for their build-a-figure concept.

In the picture below, you can see all the items (1/6 scale uniform and equipment belonging to Captain America) neatly laid out in the tray for use to equip Captain Action in his transformation into Captain America. Captain Action is marketed as a kid's toy and hence cannot be compared to the highly detailed collectibles purchased by adults with a higher disposable income and who have a desire for more realistic looking figure and accessories. The price point of these Captain Action costume sets are also way way way below what Hot Toys is charging for their products. As a kid's toy, this set is still very FUN and enjoyable and it does work as well as Steve Rogers Captain America USO hero suit as seen the "Captain America: The First Avenger" movie.

Here's 12-inch Steve Rogers (1/6 scale Chris Evans as Steve Rogers / Captain America head sculpt by Hot Toys) wearing the Captain Action Captain America costume.

The classic Captain America costume is made up of vibrant red, white and blue form-fitting stretch fabric with velcro on the back. This version of the suit gave the designers an opportunity to portray a more traditional comic book look before taking it into the realm of serious superhero gear. The costume includes red gauntlet gloves, belt with removable pouches and red boots.

Steve Rogers USO stage shield is in the classic red, white and blue colors inspired by the United Sates of America flag. Steve Rogers as Captain America carried this style shield while on stage during his USO shows. Later Rogers wields this shield during his first incursion into Hydra factory and fights Red Skull in a memorable encounter.

Captain America uses several shields throughout his history, the most prevalent of which is a nigh-indestructible disc-shaped shield made from an experimental alloy of steel and the fictional vibranium BUT this was this triangular shield was his first shield which he is seen using during World War II before he switches to the all too familiar round shield.

Scroll down to see more pictures of this 1/6 scale Captain America costume set for Captain Action used here for Hot Toys Chris Evans as Steve Rogers 12-inch figure as his USO Captain America costume when he performed on the vaudeville stage to promote war bonds.

Hot Toys has released images and promoted a 1/6 scale Golden Age version Captain America 12-inch figure based on Chris Evans as Steve Rogers / Captain America in his USO Captain America costume and triangular shield during all their toy shows but no news yet as to whether they will be releasing this figure since the figure doesn't seem to have a lot of accessories and the costume is rather basic. How would Hot Toys price it? Will it be justifiable and who would be keen to buy it?

Check out the close-up pictures of Hot Toys Chris Evans as Steve Rogers wearing the 1/6 scale Captain Action Captain America costume meant for 12-inch figures. Not a bad fit IMHO and certainly not the kind of pricing Hot Toys would be charging.

The Hot Toys 1/6 scale Chris Evans Steve Rogers head sculpt is definitely a better option than the masks of Steve Rogers and Captain America that was included with this Captain Action Captain America costume set.

Here's Steve Rogers wearing the classic Golden Age Captain America costume with the triangular shield. The only thing missing is the mask.

The Captain America costume is made up of vibrant red, white and blue form-fitting stretch fabric with velcro on the back.

Here's a comparison picture of Captain Action Captain America costume or Golden Age Captain America costume with the modern Captain America costume as seen in the movie "The Avengers".

If you notice the waist area, I actually pulled up the pants of this Hot Toys 1/6 scale Captain America 12-inch Collectible Figure from "The Avengers" slightly higher and positioned his belt with pouches also higher in order to reduce the elongated look he came in where there was too much torso exposed. You can compare this shot / picture with the earlier ones I took in my review of this Hot Toys Captain America figure HERE

Here's a closer look at the improved waist region for the Captain America costume from "The Avengers" movie.
