Zombie Alert 2 – DAM Toys 1/6 scale Zombie German-SS Soldier 12-inch figure preview

No zombie German officer is complete without zombie German soldiers ;p or do zombies really have a leader? All I've seen of zombies are hordes moving as one in a mob mentality without any real leadership present. In 1932, Victor Halperin directed "White Zombie", a horror film starring Bela Lugosi. This film, capitalizing on the same voodoo zombie themes as Seabrook's book of three years prior, is often regarded as the first legitimate zombie film, and introduced the word "zombie" to the wider world.

A new version of the zombie, distinct from that described in Haitian religion, has emerged in popular culture in recent decades. This "zombie" is taken largely from George A. Romero's seminal film "The Night of the Living Dead", which was in turn partly inspired by Richard Matheson's 1954 novel "I Am Legend". The word zombie is not used in "Night of the Living Dead", but was applied later by fans. The monsters in the film and its sequels, such as "Dawn of the Dead" and "Day of the Dead", as well as its many inspired works, such as "Return of the Living Dead" and "Zombi 2", are usually hungry for human flesh although "Return of the Living Dead" introduced the popular concept of zombies eating brains.

Although this modern monster bears some superficial resemblance to the Haitian zombie tradition, its links to such folklore are unclear, and many consider George A. Romero to be the progenitor of this creature. Zombie fiction is now a sizeable sub-genre of horror, usually describing a breakdown of civilization occurring when most of the population become flesh-eating zombies — a zombie apocalypse. Can't wait to see Brad Pitt pitting himself against zombies in "World War Z", coming out this year.

Zombie Alert: DAM TOYS 1/6 scale Zombie German-SS Officer 12-inch figure preview

Dead Snow (Norwegian: Død snø) is a 2009 Norwegian zombie comedy film directed by Tommy Wirkola, starring Charlotte Frogner, Stig Frode Henriksen, Bjørn Sundquist, Ane Dahl Torp and Jenny Skavlan. The film centres around a group of students surviving a zombie attack in the mountains of Norway. The premise of the film to that of the draugr - a Scandinavian folkloric undead greedily protecting its (often stolen) treasures. The zombies are in World War II Schutzstaffel (SS) uniforms.

In an interview, Wirkola said, "When we were about to sit down and write the actual script, we started thinking ‘What is more evil than a zombie’? A Nazi-zombie! We have a really strong war-history up in the north of Norway from World War Two, so it was fun to combine actual events with our own story. And you know Nazis have always been the ultimate villains in movies. Combine that with zombies and you really get something that no one would sympathise with."

DAM TOYS will be releasing a 1/6 scale Zombie German-SS Officer which will come with 1/6 scale zombie head sculpt, 12-inch action figure body, zombie hands / palms (one pair), Waffen-SS Officer Visor Cap, white cotton shirt, black necktie, shoulder straps (one), Waffen-SS black wool breeches, Waffen-SS Officer Aged Belt, Swastika armband, WW2 German 6 X 30 binoculars and German Cavalry Riding Boots (one pair). Any similarity to Dead Snow (Norwegian: Død snø) is purely coincidental ;p

Not my cup of tea but I'm sure many Zombie fans will be all over this. A different take of a WWII German military figure if I ever saw one.

If the outfit was cleaner i.e. not bloodied or weathered to this extent, I might still get it for the uniform because it looks very well made and nice. I would use it for my Sideshow Collectibles 1/6 scale Kroenen 12-inch figure from "Hellboy" the movie - see the pictures of Kroenen HERE

He would go well with the Nazi Occultist 12-inch figure I kitbashed (see pictures HERE) to go alongside the 1/6 scale Hellboy figures I have

If it's about zombies, it has to be about how they bad they look - rotting skin, open wounds etc. After all, a zombie (Haitian Creole: zonbi; North Mbundu: nzumbe) is an "animated corpse resurrected by mystical means, such as witchcraft". Since the late 19th century, zombies have acquired notable popularity, especially in North American and European folklore. In modern times, the term "zombie" has been applied to an undead being in horror fiction, largely drawn from George A. Romero's 1968 film "Night of the Living Dead". [source: wiki]

The term is also often figuratively applied to describe a hypnotized person bereft of consciousness and self-awareness, yet ambulant and able to respond to surrounding stimuli. I've seen many of these modern "zombies" around the neighnorhood ;p

Lately there has been quite a lot of films and even a TV series on zombies and people just can't seem to get enough of them. It's like the zombies are eating away at their brains and they are now turning into zombies themselves haha

This German uniform set will come with Women’s Grey Ship cap, Women’s White Long-sleeved Shirt, Women’s Grey Uniform, Women’s Grey Uniform Skirt,Lether Belt and Cross-body Strap, Black Tie, Black Long Tube Pantyhose, Black High-heels, Badges, Pins, Armband, Swastika armband. Pop Toys says that this suit set will be fitter, because of the new cutting style. The head in the picture is provided by the brand Kumik. Another similar figure previewed earlier HERE was the Original Effect Army Attractive series 1/6 scale Viola 12-inch female action figure. She looked pretty much the slut, I meant the part and although she didn't have a Swastika symbol, we all knew which country she was supposed to represent.

Sometimes a woman can look sexy even when she's all covered up and such is the case here. Pop Toys 1/6 scale German Female Instructors Uniform Skirt Set for 12-inch Female Figures looks very authentic and fitting on the figure. Somehow I think a whip would've made her look even sexier haha There's always a thin line between sexy and slutty and the problem is, most 1/6 manufacturers / companies tend to go with slutty or the "tactical hooker" look as some people has come to call it. Not in this case though.

This set actually looks rather nice and would go well with any regular WWII German trooper

Another German female figure to take note of is the Hot Toys Collector's Edition MMS92 (Movie Masterpiece Series) 1/6 scale Silken Floss (Scarlett Johansson) 12-inch Female Action Figure from the movie "The Spirit". Check out my full review with lots of pictures HERE

Incoming: MC Toys 1/6 scale KSK Kommando Spezialkräfte Flecktarnmuster 12" military figure

In 1976, the Bundeswehr in Germany developed a number of prototype camouflage patterns, to be trialled as replacements for the solid olive-grey "moleskin" combat uniform. At least four distinct camouflage patterns were tested during Bundeswehr Truppenversuch 76 ("Bundeswehr Troop Trial 76"). One was called "Dots" or "Points", and one was called "Ragged Leaf" or "Saw Tooth Edge". Of the patterns tested, that which is today known as Flecktarn was selected for adoption. The word is a composite formed from the German words Fleck (spot, blot, or pattern) and Tarnung (camouflage). The Bundeswehr kept its green combat dress throughout the 1980s, however. Flecktarn was only widely introduced in 1990, after trials beginning in 1988. [source: wiki]

Magic Cube Toys seems to have kept the best for later ;p After the bad showing of the MC Toys Armed Girl series 1/6 scale Desert Flecktarn Suit for 12" female figures (previewed HERE in my earlier toy blog post), Magic Cube has now released pictures of NOT one but TWO German Camouflage outfit sets for 12-inch male figures and these include the 12-inch figure as well :)

The KSK Kommando Spezialkräfte (Special Forces Command, KSK) is an elite military unit composed of Special Operations soldiers handpicked from each of the ranks of Germany’s Bundeswehr and organized as such under the Division Spezielle Operationen (Special Operations Division, DSO). The unit has received many decorations and awards from NATO, the USA and its affiliates. Modeling itself on the British Army's Special Air Service and the US Army Special Forces, KSK operators are frequently requested for joint anti-terror operations, notably in the Balkans and Middle East.

In Germany, the Flecktarn camouflage pattern is used by all Bundeswehr service branches, the Heer (army), the Luftwaffe (air force), some Marine (navy) units and even the Sanitätsdienst (medical service). It is also used by snipers of the Österreichisches Bundesheer (Federal Army of Austria) and Belgian Air Force ground personnel and airborne infantry. France tested Flecktarn for use, but rejected it; the Dutch army also tested and rejected it, allegedly because it was "too aggressive". Flecktarn was seen as controversial because of its (vague) resemblance to the Waffen-SS "peas" and "oak leaves" patterns, which also used dots in various colours.

Flecktarn is the basis for Bundeswehr Wüstentarn (desert camouflage), Danish T/78 camouflage and Danish M/84 camouflage, including a desert variation of the Danish pattern.

The MC Toys Flecktarn set 12-inch military action figure comes with a 1/6 scale head sculpt meant to resemble Michael Ballack, retired German professional footballer. He is among the top goal scorers in the history of his international team. Ballack has worn the number 13 shirt for every team he has played for except for Kaiserslautern. He was selected by Pelé as one of FIFA's 100 Greatest Living Players, and as the UEFA Club Midfielder of the Year in 2002.

Michael Ballack was never in the military but he has certainly done his duties and his country proud as a footballer for Germany so it's nice to have a 12-inch figure with Michael Ballack's likeness.

MC Toys may have disappointed with the Armed Girl series 1/6 scale Desert Flecktarn Suit for 12" female figures but has more than made up for it with these two offerings. Great sets and great options for us collectors :)
