I had to do it :) After getting the Dragon Models Limited (DML) 1/6th scale Private First Class "Cappy" - World War II US Army Ranger (2nd Battalion, France 1944) 12-inch military action figure (see earlier post), I wanted a group shot of the 1/6th scale cast from "Saving Private Ryan" that I have in my 12-inch figure collection. Not all of them are here but enough to make an impression for me :)

Let's see who I have in 1/6th scale so far (from left to right): Vin Diesel as Private First Class Adrian Caparzo, Barry Pepper as marksman Private Daniel Jackson, Tom Hanks as Captain John H. Miller and Matt Damon as paratrooper Private First Class James Francis Ryan

Closer look at 1/6th scale Tom Hanks as Captain John H. Miller. This is the DID released WWII US Army 2nd Ranger Battalion - Normandy June 6, 1944 1/6 scale collectible figure Captain "Millers".

1/6th scale Barry Pepper as marksman Private Daniel Jackson. DID released WWII U.S. Army 2nd Ranger Battalion Marksman "Private Daniel" in 2009. Private Daniel Jackson is a marksman / sharpshooter and NOT a sniper.

The main difference between a marksman and a sniper is that a marksman is usually considered an organic part of a team of soldiers, whereas snipers tend to work solitarily or with other snipers. Full figure reviews and pictures posted earlier HERE and HERE :)

And then there's 1/6th scale Matt Damon as paratrooper Private First Class James Francis Ryan of Baker Company, 1st Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, missing in action somewhere in Normandy after D-Day (June 6, 1944).

Lastly, there are all the "extras" in the movie and there are also these "extra" troopers / soldiers in the 1/6th world too ;p This is the 2007 released BBi Elite Force WWII 63rd Anniversary of D-Day Limited Edition Private Vince Neiheisel "Vince", a 1/6 scale 12-inch combat engineer with the 29th infantry division.

While the characters from Saving Private Ryan were fictional, Private Vince Neiheisel served as a combat engineer with the 29th infantry division. He landed at Omaha Beach on D-Day and served for 335 consecutive days throughout the European theatre. Among the decorations he received during his service were a distinguished unit Badge, the European campaign medal with 5 bronze stars, and a presidential citation for the Roer River crossing.

Dragon WWII 1/6th scale US Army Ranger Private First Class "Cappy" (Vin Diesel) Review II

Having already seen packaging and contents of this Dragon Models Limited (DML) 1/6th scale Private First Class "Cappy" - World War II US Army Ranger (2nd Battalion, France 1944) 12-inch military action figure in the earlier post, it's now time to see how everything comes together :)

As mentioned previously, Vin Diesel stars as Private First Class Adrian "Cappy" Caparzo in "Saving Private Ryan" and this DML 1/6th scale WWII US Army Ranger 12-inch action figure is obviously modeled after Diesel's character.

Dragon Models Limited (DML) has been releasing movie-related figures of late. There was the pair of Asian actors Jay Chou and Nicolas Tse in the Hong Kong action film "The Viral Factor" (posted earlier HERE and HERE), the preview of their soon-to-be-released trio of Agent J, Agent K (old) and Agent K (young) from MIB3 plus these "Saving Private Ryan" figures. This was what Vin Diesel as Italian-American Caparzo wore in the 1998 American epic war film "Saving Private Ryan" directed by Steven Spielberg.

For more close-up shots of the 1/6th scale head sculpt with Vin Diesel's likeness, check out my earlier post HERE :) personally I think Dragon managed to capture Vin Diesel's likeness as the resemblance is there. Perhaps the painting skills are not on par with Hot Toys or DiD or Enterbay but for the price I'm paying, I'm quite happy with how this turned out :)

Review 1: Dragon Private First Class "Cappy" - World War II US Army Ranger 2nd Battalion

The 1998 American epic war film "Saving Private Ryan" was directed by Steven Spielberg who wanted to show audiences the powerful, realistic re-creation of WWII's D-Day invasion and the immediate aftermath. The film is noted for its graphic and realistic portrayal of war, especially for the intensity of its opening 27 minutes, which depicts the Omaha Beach assault of June 6, 1944.

Captain John H. Miller (Tom Hanks) is given the assignment of finding a paratrooper, Private First Class James Ryan (Matt Damon) behind enemy lines and he chooses a translator, Corporal Upham (Jeremy Davis), skilled in language but not in combat, to join his squad of right-hand man Sergeant Horvath (Tom Sizemore), plus privates Mellish (Adam Goldberg), Medic Wade (Giovanni Ribisi), cynical Reiben (Edward Burns) from Brooklyn, Italian-American Caparzo (Vin Diesel), and religious Southerner Jackson (Barry Pepper), an ace sharpshooter who calls on the Lord while taking aim.

Having previously experienced action in Italy and North Africa, the close-knit squad sets out through areas still thick with Nazis. After they lose one man in a skirmish at a bombed village, some in the group begin to question the logic of losing more lives to save a single soldier.

The box description reads: "Cappy was a US Army Ranger that came ashore with the 2nd Ranger Battalion in the early hours of 6 June 1944 on the Normandy coast. His weapon is wrapped in a black plastic cover to protect it from seawater and sand, and he carries an M5 Assault Gas mask in its M7 rubberized bag. On his arm is a Gas Detecting Brassard. In an amazing piece of realism, his Service Boots are even coated with gritty sand from the beach at the foot of the cliff. Looking like he just waded through the surf, Cappy takes realism to a whole new level."

Vin Diesel stars as Private First Class Adrian "Cappy" Caparzo in "Saving Private Ryan" and this DML 1/6th scale WWII US Army Ranger 12-inch action figure is obviously modeled after Diesel's character. He was cast in Steven Spielberg's 1998 Oscar-winning film on the poignancy of his performance in Multi-Facial, a short semi-autobiographical film which follows a struggling actor stuck in the audition process, because he is regarded as either "too black" or "too white", or not black or white enough.

Cappy comes in one tray with a pair of extra hands, M1 Helmet and Insignia: WWII Ranger Scrolls and Private First Class stripes. Another tray holds all his WWII US Army gear and weapon.

and then buttoned up one by one. Pretty detailed and a very delicate process.
