New look ED-209 for RoboCop Reboot

Posted on 21:37 by Unknown
I came across this image of the new look ED-209 for the RoboCop Reboot film that's coming out and thought I'll just share :) Probably old news to most of you but I haven't seen this image till now haha

I've seen images of the new RoboCop and the sleeker looking ED-209 goes in line with the overall new look of the new RoboCop film and I think it's worth watching but I still feel nostalgic towards the original RoboCop that was released in 1987 with Peter Weller as Alex Murphy / RoboCop.

Apparently the new RoboCop rides a bike instead of a police car. Will just have to wait for the movie to be released to see how it fares.

Check out these Beautiful Shogun Warriors Posters by Boiling Point Creative Group

Posted on 23:35 by Unknown
Joe Natoli sent me these beautiful images / posters of the SHOGUN warriors and asked me to consider posting these on my toy blog. How could I not do it right? These are just fantastic and very nicely done so here they are for all our enjoyment :) Thanks Joe of Boiling Point Creative Group.

The Shogun Warriors were the central characters of a line of toys licensed by Mattel Inc. during the late 1970s that consisted of a series of imported Japanese robots based on the then popular anime shows featuring giant robots. Originally manufactured in three sizes: the 24-inch (610 mm) plastic versions, the 3.5-inch (89 mm) diecast metal versions and the slightly taller but much more detailed and articulated 5" diecast versions, several vehicles were also offered as well as a set that could be put together to form the super robot Combattra.

These toys featured spring-loaded launcher weapons such as missiles, shuriken and battle axes. Some were able to launch their fists while the later diecast versions also had the ability to transform into different shapes. Raydeen, for example, could become a birdlike spaceship. These "convertible" editions were the precursors to the Transformers line of toy robots, but unlike the later products, it was not unusual for minor dissasembly to be required to achieve the secondary form.

Giant robot characters that featured in the original toy line were: 17 Robot, Combattra, Daimos, Dangard Ace, Dragun, Gaiking, Grendizer, Great Mazinger, Leopardon, Poseidon, Raiden, Raydeen, Voltes V

In addition, two giant movie monsters from Toho were added to the line: Godzilla and Rodan

Like certain other toy lines of the 1970s, the Shogun Warriors came under pressure over safety concerns regarding their spring-loaded weapons. It was feared that children might launch the weapons and hit other children or pets in the eye. There was also a risk that children might swallow the small plastic missiles and other parts. Toy manufacturers then faced new regulations due to reported injuries received as a result of playing with these toys. Consequently, many toy companies were forced to remodel existing toy lines with child-safe variations (such as spring-loaded "action" missiles that would remain attached to the toy). For this reason, as well as declining sales, the Shogun Warrior line had disappeared by 1980.

Just some RoboCop and RoboCop movie-related figures on display, including ED-209 & RoboCain

Posted on 19:10 by Unknown
This is how I have been displaying my Hot Toys 1/6 scale ED 209 collectible figure since I took it out of the box, alongside smaller sized RoboCop figures from various other manufacturers. It looked rather lonesome all by itself and there was no way to squeeze any other 1/6 scale figure into the display cabinet. This was a case where I built the display cabinet first (way back in 1997) and it was never intended for displaying the Hot Toys ED-209 collectible figure as I didn't even know at the time that I would ever be seeing one in 1/6 scale but it seems to have served its purpose as a RoboCop themed display cabinet with ED-209 taking centre stage :)

You can see lots more pictures of Hot Toys ED 209 version 1.0 in my toy blog post HERE. The other smaller RoboCop figures were released at different times by different companies and being a fan of the RoboCop movies, I ended up collecting them as well. The other two Hot Toys 1/6 scale RoboCop 12-inch collectible figures in my collection are: RoboCop from the first movie (pictures HERE and HERE) and RoboCop 3 with jetpack / flight pack (reviewed HERE and HERE). Scroll down to see the rest of the RoboCop display :)

Hot Toys 1:6 scale ED-209 as seen from the back

This is the 1988 Kenner RoboCop Ultra Police ED-260 Robot (not sure why they didn't call it the Enforcement Droid Series 209 or simply ED-209). One of the cool things was that it had a cap firing feature at the back and a small roll of caps were included (described as "Rapid Repeat Cap-firing Mechanism"). More pictures HERE of this Kenner ED-260 (ED-209) Cap Firing Robot.

Here's a look at the Kotobukiya ED-209 from the RoboCop movies. These mini Kotobukiya figures, released in 2006, consisted of 2 to 7 easy to assemble parts ranging in size from 3 to 5 inches. ED-209 is only about 3 inches tall (7.5 cm) but the amount of detail they managed to squeeze into something so small is amazing. See all the pictures in my 2009 toy blog post HERE

Then there's the Kotobukiya RoboCop 3 with Jet Pack

It has very nice details. See my post HERE for more pictures. In the foreground is the Mez-Itz RoboCop Figure. You can see the rest of the pictures HERE

This is the Kotobukiya RoboCop mini figure which measures just 4 inches tall (10 cm high) but I just love the details they managed to pack into something so small! Full review and coverage HERE

Last but not least, RoboCain! Too bad this is only 3.5 inches tall or 9 cm high. See all the pictures HERE
