Incoming: Very Hot 1/6 scale U.S. Army EOD Uniform Set for 12-inch figures - Hurt Locker?

Posted on 15:04 by Unknown
Before Jeremy Renner became world famous as Clint Barton / Hawkeye in "The Avengers", he came into his own as Sergeant First Class William James in "The Hurt Locker", a 2008 American war film about a three-man Explosive Ordnance Disposal (bomb disposal) team during the Iraq War. The film was directed by Kathryn Bigelow and the screenplay was written by Mark Boal, a freelance writer who was embedded as a journalist in 2004 with an U.S. Army EOD team in Iraq.

Sergeant First Class William James (Jeremy Renner), a battle-tested veteran, arrives as a new team leader of a U.S. Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit during the Iraq War, replacing Staff Sergeant Matthew Thompson (Guy Pearce), who was killed by a radio-controlled 155mm improvised explosive device (IED) in Baghdad. James' maverick methods and attitude lead Sanborn and Eldridge to consider him reckless, and tensions mount. When they are assigned to destroy some explosives in a remote desert area, James returns to the detonation site to pick up his gloves. Sanborn openly contemplates killing James by "accidentally" triggering the explosion, making Eldridge very uncomfortable, but he does nothing.

This upcoming Very Hot release of the 1/6 scale U.S. Army EOD Uniform Set for 12-inch figures Features: ACU Shirt, ACU Pants, Tan Belt, MICH Helmet (woodland camouflage), Interceptor Body Armor (woodland), Gloved Hands, Tactical / Combat Boots, Beretta Pistol with Drop Down Pistol Holster, Water Bladder Pack (ACU), Dust Goggles, Radio with Pouch, Grenade Pouches x 2 (woodland), Double M4 Magazine Pouch x 2 (woodland), Smoke Grenades x 2, Hand Grenades x 2, Water Bottles x 2, Pliers / Wire Cutters x 4, Carabiner, Wrenches x 2, Screwdriver, Hand Saw (actually a snap-off blade knife), Patch Assortment, GP (General Purpose) Pouch (woodland), Leg Subload (woodland), IED, M4 Carbine with Tac Light, ACOG Sight, Laser Pointer, Foregrip, PMags x 4. NOTE: 1/6 scale head sculpt and 12-inch Action Figure body is Not Included (used in pictures for display only)

Dragon Models Limited (DML) had released a 1/6 scale US Army EOD Squad Leader - Operation Iraqi Freedom - "William" (Sergeant First Class) 12-inch military action figure back in 2010 - see my reviews and pictures HERE, HERE and HERE.

While Dragon Models (DML) 1/6 scale US Army EOD Squad Leader William could be fully suited up in his bomb suit - a SRS-5 (Search and Reconnaissance Suit Model 5) which is considered the light suit version - this Very Hot 1/6 scale U.S. Army EOD Uniform Set has only the basic BDU (Battle Dress Uniform) that all soldiers wear and no bomb suit to show for it.

The only thing that tells you that this is an EOD figure are the patches he comes with. Remove those and he's just the basic grunt. Scroll down to see how he looks in turnaround views and also action poses with the 1/6 scale IED (Improvised Explosive Device).

Here's the Very Hot 1/6 scale U.S. Army EOD Uniform Set put into action. He is given miniature 1/6 scale tools to disarm the IED. He can carry the tools either in the GP (General Purpose) Pouch (woodland) or the Leg Subload (woodland).

Preview Soldier Story 1991 Operation Desert Saber 1/6 USMC "Jarhead" 12" Military Figure

Posted on 20:04 by Unknown
Jarhead is a 2005 biographical drama war film based on U.S. Marine Anthony Swofford's 2003 memoir of the same name, directed by Sam Mendes, starring Jake Gyllenhaal as Swofford with co-stars Jamie Foxx, Peter Sarsgaard, and Chris Cooper. The title comes from the slang term used to refer to U.S. Marines (sometimes by Marines themselves).

Jamie Foxx plays SSgt Sykes. Staff Sergeant Sykes is a Marine lifer. He is Swoff and Troy's training SNCO during Scout Sniper training at Camp Pendleton. If you've been wanting to add a 1990s Gulf War Era 12-inch military figure to your collection, now's the time :) First there was the DAM Toys 1/6 USMC in Persian Gulf War (Desert Storm 1991) 12-inch "Jarhead" Figure (pictures HERE) and now this.

From Soldier Story will come this 1/6 scale USMC 1st Battalion 2nd Marine Division grunt from Operation Desert Saber, Kuwait 1991. The Gulf War (2 August 1990 – 28 February 1991), codenamed Operation Desert Storm (17 January 1991 – 28 February 1991) was a war waged by a UN-authorized coalition force from 34 nations led by the United States, against Iraq in response to Iraq's invasion and annexation of Kuwait.

The Desert Night Camouflage pattern is a two-color grid camouflage pattern used by the United States military during the Gulf War. It was designed to aid soldiers in concealment from older generation enemy night vision devices (NVDs). The pattern is now considered obsolete due to the increase in capability of foreign night vision devices.

During the first Gulf War, clothing sets in this pattern were issued to US troops as an over-jacket (with a removable insulating liner) and over-pants, both being designed to be worn over the issued six-color Desert Battle Dress Uniform during nighttime operations.

During the Gulf War, one scout/sniper section of a Marine Corps battalion conducted a night test comparing the visibility of the desert night camouflage clothing with six-color desert uniforms and winter overwhites. The night camouflage clothing proved to be more visible than both the day desert uniforms and winter overwhites when viewed though an AN/PVS-5 night vision device.

Desert Battle Dress Uniform (DBDU, often called Chocolate-Chip Camouflage, Cookie Dough Camouflage, or the Six-Color Desert Pattern) was the camouflage used by the United States Military during the Gulf War and in the early 1990s. The camouflage received its nickname because it resembles chocolate-chip cookie dough. It is made up of a base pattern of light tan overlaid with broad swathes of pale olive green and wide two-tone bands of brown. Clusters of black-on-white spots are scattered over it which were meant to mimic the appearance of rocks.

Some collectors and military enthusiasts in the forums have commented that this Soldier Story 1/6 scale Desert Battle Dress Uniform, abbreviated DBDU or 6-Color Uniform, is much more accurate than the DAM Desert Storm figure coming out.

1/6 scale African American 12-inch figures are quite rarely produced so this is a nice addition to the growing number of AA figures in the market

Soldier Story Kuwait 1991 Operation Desert Saber 1/6 USMC 1st Battalion 2nd Marine Division "Jarhead" 12" Military Figure will come equipped with PASGT Helmet, PAGST Helmet cover, G.I. Sun-Wind-Dust Motocross Goggles, Night Camouflage Hat, Night camouflage uniform parka, Night camouflage uniform trousers, T-shirt, Balaclava, PASGT Body armor, Desert camo PASGT flak jacket cover, Desert Camouflage Hat, Desert battle dress uniform coat, Desert battle dress uniform trousers, Olive drab panama jungle combat boots, Y suspenders, LC-2 belt, LC-2 Magazine pouches x 2, Hand grenades x 4, Flash light, Strobe light & strobe light case, E-Tool plastic sheath, First Aid / Compass Pouch, LC-2 Butt pack, LC-2 first aid kit pouch, M17 gas mask container, Canteens & Canteen covers x 2, Desert camo backpack cover, Alice Backpack, Alice load carrying equipment metal frame, M16A2 assault rifle, M16 30-Round magazine x 7, M9 bayonet & Scabbard belt attachment, "O" Lanyard Kit, G.I. earplugs case, Sleeping pad, Alice Clips (Belt Keepers), 12-inch S2 body, 1/6 scale Head sculpt, Hands x 2

This Marine certainly looks fully loaded for war in the gulf.

Seems like a rather nice 1/6 scale Jamie Foxx head sculpt and most definitely a response to the DAM Toys Gulf War Jarhead figure. Question is: Will DAM Toys also release a Jamie Foxx as SSgt Sykes 12-inch figure as well.

When Art Figures and DAM Toys were competing for collectors' pockets and producing the 1/6 scale Black Hawk Down 12-inch figures, two figures were produced of William Fichtner as SFC Jeff Sanderson from "Black Hawk Down" (who is based on real Delta Force operator SFC Paul Howe). You can see the pictures HERE and HERE

As usual, Soldier Story 12-inch military figures come with very nice details and this looks to be a rather complete U.S. Marine Corps grunt with all his gear and accessories

This 1990s U.S. military gear will also work great for Just Cause, Urgent Fury and Gothic Serpent bashes.

The bayonet and scabbard is a really nice improvement over what has been on the market before.

We also get to see a basic M16A2 without all that SOPMOD additions! Most grunts don't carry sophisticated rifles (cost reasons) so this assault rifle is a welcome sight.

Here's all the gear and accessories of the Soldier Story upcoming 1/6 scale USMC 1st Battalion 2nd Marine Division grunt from Operation Desert Saber, Kuwait 1991 laid out nicely

Someone made an observation in the forums that "some years back, the "pigeon sh*t" camo and period gear were getting snatched up for bashes, and 21C's night camo was in demand. Now it can all be had, in detail. The hobby's not getting any cheaper, but it sure does offer a lot of choices we only used to dream of."

Incoming: DAM 1/6 USMC in Persian Gulf War (Desert Storm 1991) 12-inch "Jarhead" Figure

Posted on 20:27 by Unknown
"Jarhead" is a 2005 biographical drama war film based on former United States Marine Anthony Swofford's best-selling 2003 book about his pre-Desert Storm experiences in Saudi Arabia and about his experiences fighting in Kuwait. It was directed by Sam Mendes, starring Jake Gyllenhaal as Swofford with co-stars Jamie Foxx, Peter Sarsgaard, and Chris Cooper. The title comes from the slang term used to refer to U.S. Marines (sometimes by Marines themselves).

Anthony "Swoff" Swofford enlists in the Marines in the late 1980s. He malingers during boot camp, but makes it through as a sniper, paired with the usually-reliable Troy. The Gulf War breaks out, and his unit goes to Saudi Arabia for Desert Shield. After 175 days of boredom, adrenaline, heat, worry about his girlfriend finding someone else, losing it and nearly killing a mate, demotion, latrine cleaning, faulty gas masks, and desert football, Desert Storm begins. In less than five days, it's over, but not before Swoff sees burned bodies, flaming oil derricks, an oil-drenched horse, and maybe a chance at killing. Where does all the testosterone go?

Now from 1/6 manufacturer DAM comes this 1/6th scale USMC in the Persian gulf war (Operation Desert Storm 1991) 12-inch figure with real like head sculpt resembling Jake Gyllenhaal as Swofford with 12-inch action body, OD green t-shirt, Desert camouflage BDU (battle dress uniform) shirt and trousers, BDU belt, Desert camouflage jungle hat, PASGT helmet, Desert camouflage PASGT cover, PASGT flak jacket with Desert camouflage PASGT flak jacket cover, NBC suit, Panama outsole all-leather combat boots.

Accessories include Nomex gloves, SWDG goggles, M17A1 gasmask, M17A1 gasmask NBC cover, M17A1 gasmask bag, LC2 belt, LC2 belt suspenders, LC2 ammo pouch x 2, LC2 one-quart canteen with cover x 2, LC2 first aid / compass case, ALICE butt pack, ALICE IFAK pouch, military watch, Christmas hat

Weapons: Kar-Bar combat knife with leather sheath, M16A2 assault rifle, M16 30-round magazine x 4, M26 fragmentation grenade x 4

The one weapon that is missing from this set is the M40A1 sniper rifle as Swoff was a Scout Sniper

Due to concerns that Saddam Hussein would use chemical and biological weapons on the troops, all personnel were issued NBC suits.

An NBC (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical) suit is a type of military personal protective equipment designed to provide protection against direct contact with and contamination by radioactive, biological or chemical substances, and provides protection from contamination with radioactive materials and some types of radiation, depending on the design.

When the US troops were sent over to Saudi Arabia in 1990 as part of Operation Desert Shield in preparation for Operation Desert Storm, there were insufficient NBC suits in desert camouflage and they had to resort to the Woodlands camouflage NBC suits instead.

So you had soldiers wearing Woodlands camouflage trying to blend into the desert environment. Not really working, is it?

Desert Battle Dress Uniform (abbreviated DBDU, often called Chocolate-Chip Camouflage, Cookie Dough Camouflage, or the Six-Color Desert Pattern) was the camouflage used by the United States Military during the Gulf War and in the early 1990s.

In 1991, troops were still using the All-Purpose Lightweight Individual Carrying Equipment, or ALICE system, adopted as United States Army Standard A on 17 January 1973 to replace the M-1956 Load-Carrying Equipment [LCE] and M-1967 Modernized Load-Carrying Equipment [MLCE].

During an impromptu Christmas party thrown by Swofford, who has obtained unauthorized alcohol, Fergus (Brian Geraghty), a member of Swofford's unit, accidentally sets fire to a tent and a crate of flares. Swofford gets the blame because he was supposed to be on watch but had Fergus sit in for him. As a consequence, Swofford is demoted from Lance Corporal (E-3) to Private (E-1) and is forced to undertake the degrading task of burning "diesel fuel" (excrement).

The punishments, the heat and the boredom, combined with suspicions of his girlfriend's infidelity and feelings of isolation, temporarily drive Swofford to the point of mental breakdown. He threatens and nearly shoots fellow Marine Fergus then turns the weapon on himself and demands the traumatized Fergus to shoot him. When Fergus refuses Swofford leaves the tent.

DAM's offering of this 1/6th scale USMC in Persian Gulf War (Desert Storm 1991) 12-inch "Jarhead" Figure is simply outstanding!
